Mr Dean is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with over 20 years’ experience in eye care in the UK and internationally. He completed his basic medical training at the University of Leicester in 1999, and ophthalmology specialist training in the Severn Deanery, UK. He specialises in cataract surgery (including complex and advanced cases), glaucoma, and emergency eye care; and has performed over 9,000 ophthalmic procedures. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London; and the Chair of the International Committee of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists as well as a member of The College's Surgical Skills faculty.

e is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, has a Masters degree in Education, and a PhD in ophthalmic surgical education. He has published over 30 scientific papers in international journals, as well as a book on eye surgery.
