Mr Ferris treats NHS and private patients at Tetbury Hospital Trust.
He qualified from Bristol in 1989 and carried out his ophthalmology training at the Western Eye Hospital (London), Addenbrookes Hospital (Cambridge), Royal Children’s Hospital (Melbourne), Great Ormond Street Hospital (London) and then Moorfields Eye Hospital (London).
Mr Ferris was the Head of Ophthalmology Training in the Severn Deanery and a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Training Committee between 2010-2019. He has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Gloucestershire Eye Unit since 1999.
Mr Ferris designed the Simulated Ocular Surgery website, which has been instrumental in changing how ophthalmic surgery is taught globally. He also created the award-winning squintclinic.com which is the most popular strabismus patient information website in the world. His cataract surgery information website, cataractsurgeryinfo.com is the only video-based cataract surgery website; the videos explain every step from initial consultation to the day of surgery and eventual discharge as well as the pros and cons of the different types of intraocular lenses. He has authored three ophthalmology textbooks and been an invited speaker at 10 International Eye Surgery meetings over the past few years.
In 2009 he was awarded a Bronze National Clinical Excellence Award for his contribution to ophthalmology and surgical training in the UK. In 2023 he was appointed as a Trustee of Orbis UK, the flying eye hospital charity.
