Dr Paul Dunckley graduated from Bristol University in 1995. Following clinical attachments in Bristol and the South West of England, he trained in Gastroenterology at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford; a centre of excellence for inflammatory bowel disease. He studied how the brain processes gut pain and completed his PhD in this field at the University of Oxford in 2006.
He is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. He is also the Director of the Gloucestershire Endoscopy Training Centre and regularly trains both trainees and consultants in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Dr Dunckley is one of the counties four bowel cancer screening colonoscopists and leads the endoscopy unit at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Nationally, he is the clinical lead for the UK endoscopy trainee's portfolio and sits on the Joint Advisory Group for gastrointestinal endoscopy (JAG) working group for the quality assurance of endoscopy training. His research and specialist interests are in endoscopy training and endoscopy.
